Olive leaf can cure hypertension

A new report suggests that the consumption of olive leaf extracts helps to tackle high blood pressure. The study which was published in Phytotherapy Research today states the reports of the tests done on 20 twins who were suffering from high blood pressure. Taking 1000 mg of a specific olive leaf can bring down cholesterol as well as low blood pressure in patients with mild hypertension.

Experiments on rats have been previously done and they indicate the same result that is consumption of olive leaf is one of the ways to lower the blood pressure.

To verify whether the same is true with human beings, a pilot trial was conducted in Switzerland on 20 identical twins affected by hypertension.

"The study confirmed that olive leaf extract EFLA®943 has antihypertensive properties in humans," says one of the co-authors, Cem Aydogan, General Manager, Frutarom Health.

"This works showed that taking a 1000mg dose has substantial effects in people with borderline hypertension," says Aydogan.
